A healthy aquarium is all about stable water conditions. If you’re new to fishkeeping, these basics will help you avoid the most common problems.
The 5 essentials
Tank size: bigger tanks are more stable
Filter: match it to your tank volume
Heater (for tropical fish): keep temperature consistent
Water conditioner: removes chlorine/chloramine
Test kit: monitor ammonia, nitrite, nitrate
Don’t skip cycling
Cycling builds beneficial bacteria that convert toxic ammonia into safer compounds. Rushing this step is the #1 cause of fish loss for beginners.
Simple weekly routine
Change 20–30% of the water
Vacuum debris from the substrate
Rinse filter media in old tank water (not tap water)
Test water parameters
If you share your tank size and fish type, we can suggest the right filter, food, and water-care products.
